You know when you spot a piece of clothing so wonderfully impractical that you stop dead in your tracks? Yeah, that was me a few weeks ago. I was wandering the mall when I made uninterrupted eye contact with a stunning, floor length, over the top, golden gown that happen to NOT be on sale (this was probably the universe telling me to simply walk away). Luckily, I chose not to listen to that voice, and told my bf all about it instead. He decided it would make a great anniversary gift and bought it for me to wear to his company's annual Holiday Party. (He is the best). This is one of those purchases that you pray you will have more than one event to wear it to, but...secretly don't care either way because, well, look at it. To quote the flamboyant cashier who rung me up - "I want to live in a world where you have somewhere to wear that to."
Me too pal. Me too.
Naturally, I HAD to share this look with my gg-ers because I had so much fun creating it. I landed on this 40's esque wavy down do after a quick Pinterest search. After peeping a couple tutorials I was able to do my hair in about 30 mins, using a regular 1.5" barrel curler. It was wayyy easier than I thought and hard to screw up since it's supposed to be brushed out and a little messy.
+Earrings (Dillards)- Purchased last year for another Christmas party, these beautiful drop earrings add dramatic sparkle that compliments my hair color and dress. $29
+Strappy Gold Heels (Goodwill) - I found these shoes the DAY BEFORE the party and they still had brand new price tags on them from the original store. The best thing about these (other than they fit like a dream) was the cost. $5.99
+Cross body, gold chain bag (Goodwill) - Purchased 3 or 4 years ago, this little gold bag has been a great addition to tons of outfits over the years, ranging from casual all the way to super glam. $3.99
+'FUR' Vest (Target)- This piece is hands down my most thrifty purchase yet. I dug through some clearance racks in the depths of my local Target and found an XL gaudy faux fur vest. When rolled inward (instead of putting it on traditionally), it makes the perfect fur shawl/coat that completed this over the top 40's Hollywood look. $10.00
Ignore my charge cord, but I HAD to get a pic of my overall look. I think I found the time period I was supposed to be born in.... Obsessed with big hair and jewelry.
I had such a blast getting ready with some of my favorite girls! These ladies are not only beautiful, but are insanely smart, funny, and genuinely kind people. Not to mention they all have a wonderful sense of style. ;) We ended up with two golden dresses and two navy! This was not planned, but gladly welcomed for pictures.
